The Ambush at Aadi is an event that took place during the Reaper Wars. Validus warships attempt to annihilate a Reaper fleet near the Gas Giant of Aadi.

Validus dreadnought rising from Aadi

Near the planet, Aadi, Reapers have been intercepting and destroying Prothean and Validus ships. Renos, High General of the Validus military, comes up with a plan to deal with the Reaper vessels. He asembles 60 dreadnoughts and three scout frigates. First, he sends the scouts to Aadi to do information gathering. On their return, they discover that the Reapers patrol periodically. This allows for Renos to complete his plan. He sends the dreadnoughts to Aadi at a time when their are few to no Reapers near the planet. The dreadnought are part of an ambush mission. The ships hide inside of Aadi's upper atmosphere and activate a beacon to lure in Reapers to the gas world. The Validus dreadnoughts have powerful hulls that allows them to survive in turbulent atmospheres. The ships awaited as a swarm of atleast 30 Reapers approached Aadi, expecting to see a lone Prothean vessel. Instead, the Reapers recieve a rain of blue energy as the Validus fire on the Reapers through Aadi's thick clouds. The destructive projectiles prove to be efficient against Reapers as eight quickly fall and nine more take heavy damage. The Validus prepare their weapons for another attack but the Reapers begin to advance toward the clouds, firing Reaper Missiles wildly into the hazed wall. Two Validus ships are annihilated as the Validus release another barrage, this time using their Electromagnetic Cannons. These cannons are deadly to the Reapers and every other synthetic life form as it fries circuits. The barrage takes out more Reapers but now the Reapers have seen where the attack was exactly coming from. They retaliated and blasted through the atmosphere, taking out sixteen Validus dreadnoughts. The Protoss had no choice but to leave their clouded cover and attack the Reapers head on. Validus ships penetrated Aadi's surface and fired into the Reapers. It was a difficult battle as the Reapers began to scorch through the Validus. The numbers of both Protoss and Reapers began to dwindle, forcing many to make suicide collisions with their enemy. Only a few Validus and ten Reapers remained four hours into the battle. In an effort to save as many of their forces as possible, the Protoss make a retreat, leaving Aadi and the area around it to the Reapers.
